But the evil dragons still harmed people after their death, and their corpses turned into twelve high mountains, Wushan, which blocked the river going east, and this place became a vast ocean. The common people still cannot live and work in peace and contentment. Seeing the suffering of the people, Yaoji couldn't bear to leave them, so she stayed.

Later, Dayu came here to split the mountain and open the gorge. When Yao Ji found out, she handed him a copy of the "Treasure Scroll of Yellow Silk", and taught him to use hammers and drills to chisel stones, build carts, and transport soil by boat. With her help, Dayu led the people to dig rocks and transport soil. After many years of hard work, he finally opened the Three Gorges and made the river flow into the sea. It is said that the book-granting platform outside Wushan City is the place where Yao Ji gave the book to Dayu.

Besides, the queen mother was angry and hated when she knew that Yao Ji had sneaked into the world; she was very distressed when she heard that she stayed in the barren mountains and valleys. So she sent the remaining 22 daughters to Wushan to find her sister.

The twenty-two girls came to Wushan by cloud and fog, and found Yao Ji. The sisters reunited after a long absence, full of joy and sorrow. The sisters all persuaded Yao Ji to return to the Heavenly Palace. Yao Ji shook her head and refused, preferring to stay in the world to take care of the people.

The sisters complained: "People go to high places, but water flows to low places! Why don't you love Tiangong, but why do you want to stay in this barren mountain and valley?"

"Sister, look, the people are suffering, how can I have the heart to walk away and ignore them!" Yao Ji said.

The sisters felt that Yaoji's words were reasonable, and they all started talking about it. Some felt that they should help the people and were willing to stay with Yaoji; Yao Ji counted, and there were eleven on each side, exactly half of them. She said: "Sisters, half of them will go back to heaven, and half of them will stay in the world."

So, everyone parted happily. The ones left are Cuiping, Chaoyun, Songluan, Jixian, Juhe, Jingtan, Shengsheng, Qiyun, Feifeng, Shengquan, Denglong and Yaoji herself. Later, they became the Twelve Peaks of Wushan.
